Manufacture of bags. Since 1973, Billingham has been passionate about producing high quality, durable and stylish bags designed to protect valuable cameras and photographic equipment, while providing owners with exceptional comfort and peace of mind.
The Billingham story began back at the beginning of the 70s, when husband and wife team Martin and Ros Billingham started their own company in a region of the British Midlands, famous for manufacturing.
Their plan was to produce bags that were beautiful, durable and above all, functional.
Billingham bags would be soft and mould themselves to the body. The reasoning was that they would be more comfortable to carry, yet still provide a high level of protection from the worst that life on location – and the weather, could throw at them. It says a lot about those early designs that so many of them are still in use today. Indeed some of the original bags are still popular and in production despite the revolutionary changes that have happened in photographic technology.
A core reason for this longevity is the fact that from the start, the Billinghams were determined that their products would always be made to the very highest standards from the best available materials using the best available techniques. In order to achieve the level of excellence they sought, they knew they would need to employ a team of people whose skill levels reflected the traditions of craftsmanship that had made the region historically famous, utilise the best materials and continually invest in better machinery and processes.
Like any premium product, the quality of materials, design and craftsmanship that goes into creating a Billingham, means that it represents a significant investment, so it’s important that they don’t just look beautiful, but that they do their job of protecting equipment wherever they are and whatever they’re being used for –
year in and year out.
