Rupert and Buckley started life in the Canterbury university dormitory of its owner and founder James Buckley Thorpe, who had the idea of creating high-quality team socks for his universities rowing team with a vintage 80-needle hand-weaving machine. Soon the word, and socks, spread from town to town and James in one week had to produce 600pairs for 5 universities. At this point, the realization of what we had created set in and the range expanded with the help of some of the country most well know clothing designers. This grass routes ethos of hard work and a good idea is what has grown the brand to this day.
Jump forward 4 years and the brand now operates from its flagship store in OXfrod, has 65,000 social media followers, was voted in the top 50 fastest growing leisure brands by the Times in 2016 and now, is expanding into new wholesale retailers and 5 new stand-alone stores in York, Durham, Chester, Bath, Exeter
